Welcome to Kind Words Speech Therapy in Montebello, CA
We meet children where they are and help them grow.
Imagine your child learning new words as they play in the living room, using their AAC device to ask for a certain food at lunch, or working on a tricky speech sound while racing cars across the floor. That’s what speech therapy looks like at Kind Words! As a mobile practice, we bring everything we need to your home and build communication skills within your child’s normal day.
Most importantly, we get to know your child for who they are. We follow their interests, build on their strengths, and create personalized sessions around the skills that matter most to your family.
Pediatric Speech Therapy Services in Montebello, CA
-
Let’s start with an evaluation! We’ll use the following methods to learn about your family’s goals and identify your child’s communication strengths/challenges:
Parent interviews
Direct observations
Standardized tests
Informal assessments
Input from classroom teachers, occupational therapists, behavioral therapists, and other professionals on your child’s team
Once the evaluation is complete, we’ll use the results to create meaningful and appropriate speech therapy goals for your child. You’ll receive a written report, including a treatment plan if your child is eligible for services.
-
Is your child’s speech difficult to understand? In speech therapy, your child will have fun playing games as they learn where to place their tongue, lips, and teeth to make age-appropriate speech sounds. Speech therapy will help your child:
Speak clearly and confidently
Feel understood by others
Gain awareness and self-correct their own errors
Use accurate speech sounds everywhere they go
-
Whether your child is having trouble finding the right words, putting sentences together, understanding what others are saying, or navigating social interactions, we’re here to help. Language therapy uses a mix of play and structured activities to help your child:
Follow directions and answer questions
Express their wants and needs clearly
Form sentences and hold conversations
Develop social skills like reading body language
-
When your child stutters, you may worry about how they feel speaking at school, with friends, or in everyday situations. Our goal isn’t to eliminate stuttering, but to help your child understand their stutter, build confidence, and say what they want to say. Stuttering therapy will help your child:
Speak freely (with or without stuttering)
Understand and accept their stutter
Learn fluency strategies
Confidently present in class, talk on the phone, and order food
-
Every child can communicate and connect with others. We’re here to find the right supports to help your child do both! Speech therapy will always be tailored to your child’s special interests and individual needs, using visual and sensory supports to help them:
Engage through joint attention, turn-taking, initiation, and imitation
Communicate their wants, needs, and ideas more independently
Build meaningful connections with family and friends
Reduce frustration and related behaviors
Have you heard of AAC? Communication is so much more than speech. That’s why we use AAC systems, or speech-generating devices, to support non-verbal children in speech therapy. Contact us to learn more about how AAC can benefit your child!
Meet Your Speech Therapist
Ashley Mark, M.A., CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
I’m a pediatric speech therapist in Montebello, CA, with more than six years of experience supporting elementary and middle school children. Much of my experience has been with young children who have autism, and they’ve taught me that the best therapy starts with taking the time to truly know the child in front of me.
I started Kind Words to make personalized speech therapy more accessible and less stressful for families. I love being welcomed into the everyday lives of the children I work with and partnering with their loved ones. To me, speech therapy is about so much more than teaching specific skills. It’s about understanding who a child is, celebrating what makes them unique, and helping them express that to the world.

Frequently Asked Questions About Speech Therapy
-
Yes. Schools define speech therapy eligibility based on California Education Code which may not qualify your child for speech therapy services in the school setting. Private speech therapy is a great option to still get your child the help they need.
-
Trust your instincts. You know your child better than anyone else. If you suspect your child is having difficulty with communication, seek professional guidance. Book a free consultation with me so we can discuss the next course of action for your child.
-
It is generally not recommended to take a "wait and see" approach when a child is displaying delays in communication development. Since a child's brain is most adaptable and responsive to learning for the first three years of life, early intervention is critical for your child's future outcomes.
-
Yes, it is absolutely normal; HOWEVER, mispronunciations should not persist beyond specific developmental ages. A speech therapist can help you identify whether your child is reaching their speech sound milestones.
-
It depends. We first need to look at whether the stuttering is developmental in nature or is a "true" or persistent stutter. A developmental stutter does not require treatment whereas a "true” stutter could need treatment.
